Default The 4.8L that could..... REBUILD TIME... with 390ci instead of 285ci...

Hey guys, I figured i would post my build thread on these forums as well.
Its already on ls1tech and about 4 or 5 other forums, But here it is.

its a 2004 silverado... to which i added a p1sc procharger to.

As i type this, the truck is getting tuned up on the dyno and having a new exhaust made and headers added.

The next plans for the truck.... Is a 3400-3600 stall, and 3.73 rear gears with a locker and a built 4l60.

After that, I plan on ripping the 4.8 apart, boring and stroking it, to around a ls1 size, putting in a good cam, and doing a good deal of work to the heads.

But, its going to be a while before that happens...

So, anyways, the pictures are in the link below.

Ill have dyno pictures, and performance videos by the end of the week hopefully. Maryland performance is doing the tuning on it. I should be pushing around 475-500.

Why are you going to waste the money stroking a 4.8? Even if you used a 5.3/6.0/LS1 stock crank you got for free, you'd still need to get it line honed and new bearings. You'd be better off starting with a 6.0 if you plan on pulling the motor apart and going down that road. Good luck though.

subscribed.. I'm always interested in what the 4.8's can do. I don't think I've seen a procharged 4.8 either.

That idea is also in good consideration, Im still checking out the junkyards for a good 6.0 core. If the 4.8 dies from my lead foot, I can bet money that a lq4 will replace it.

There is one benefit to boosting a smaller engine that most people overlook...gas mileage.

If you're out of boost on a 4.8, you get stock mileage. Step it up to a bigger engine, and that number becomes inversely proportional to maximum power. Kind of a trade off that one has to consider before building up an engine...

If only i could keep my foot out of the thing..... the gas milage might be pretty good. On average, i usually get 16-22 depending, But, i live in the middle of a city... that has 24/7 rush hour traffic, Welcome to the washington d.c. area.

Another possible plus of the 4.8... Is, it SHOULD be pretty rev happy. I dont plan on testing this theory until I have a spare core... But, it should work that way.

And last, who expects a 4.8L to beat them?

i think the 5.3 will get better milage than a 4.8. i know my ls1 got way better mileage than my 4.8l. it had enough torque to actually move the truck.
