4.8L build for supercharger
#1
Hello Guys !!!
Here is my first post, here we go.... I have a 66 chevy shortbox that im dropping in a 4.8 LS out of 2003 GMC. I am at the exciting stage of building and buying all the parts and I want to do it the right way. I need advice on specific cams and any recommendations for gearing the stall and rear end.
What cam, stall, headers and gearing would you recommend to run to match up with a supercharger down the road ?
Currently thinking of going with 212/218 .522 .529 114lsa CAM, 3200 stall and 3.73s in the back along with shorty headers as its pretty tight in my 80s frame up front.
Thanks in advance for any advice and recommendations !!!

Not entirely sure but my goal overall would be 450-500hp, any recommendations ? Is there a specific brand that's better than others ? I'm learning more and more everyday about all the parts, just want to ensure I do it right !
Thanks !
Thanks !

something that gets out of the hole quick as ppl say the 4.8L is a dog out of the hole, Im wanting to put a cam in that will help with my lower rpm and still work with a supercharger....... what you running 03Sierraslt?

The shorties in the 4.8 don't do much and with higher hp setups doesn't expell the gas efficient enough... and what are u going to run tranny wise? as for gears I have grown attached to the 3.90 gear, it is very streetable with mpg and gets my 4.8 out the hole pretty damn good IMO.

It just depends on your setup, power goals and budget. Not knowing any of that, I would say a T72 would suite your needs... My best advice would be for you to read through a lot of 4.8l build threads on this site.

I have done lots of that.... the hard thing is there are so many options. As I don't have much room in my frame for headers does anyone know of a performance header that stays real tight to the block but still makes it worth buying ?

I'm partial to the roots type blowers... but if you are willing to go turbo there is definitely more power opportunity there.
You could make 12-15# of boost with a maggie on that engine in a heartbeat and it would hardly break a sweat. Not to mention it would be power under the pedal... gotta love that.
