Maybe some rcsb guys can chime in about drive shaft length, I don't know if they need to be modified or not, I didn't but I have a 2-piece shaft(ecsb).

As far as I know 3R has been the standard size for GM 1500's, it just kept popping up during my searches for u-joints on 80e swaps.

this is a good one shows all the different sizes and measurements

Awesome. Thank you! Looks like the 3R are pretty beefy close to a 1350. Might be better to just stick with that.

So guys....

I purchased a short th400/4l80e trans yoke with 3R U joints from driveshaft Specialist in San Antonio. Jeff was very helpful and super responsive.

He's thinking I should be able to use the stock driveshaft (length) with this yoke.

I'm about to get a 2002 Chevy Silverado 2500 flexplate for $50 shipped. I was toying with purchasing a hughes SFI approved flexplate with converter adapter for $200, but I'm thinking I'll put that in when I get a billet torque converter down the road.

So its looking like all i need is flex plate to crank bolts, modify the trans brace, segment swap on my tune, new trans cooler lines and wire it up.

I'm getting excited. Hoping this stock 4l80 with stock converter will put up with 12psi on the stock 4.8L for a few months.

I also figured out that I couldn't do wicked burnouts because I have abuse mode enabled. That **** will get turned off first thing lol.

If that stock flexplate cracks you will probably wish you went with an SFI plate originally. At least that was my thinking. Cost and time in pulling the trans.

Thank you!. Already picked up a 2002 2500 flex from a yard, but at least I know where to get a new one if this one takes a crap. My buddy works at a dealer and picked up new bolts for pretty cheap. All set with the flex now.

Agreed. I won't be spinning this engine very high, so the sfi doesn't really benefit. The construction would help though.

I'm going to have to pull it eventually to do a trans rebuild and converter, so I'll probably do it then.

Money's tight right now and I want my second gear back lol.

Hey guys,

Been a while... working on some other projects lately. I'm getting ready to get my 4l80e in and I need some advice.

I'm going to do a mild rebuild and I'm shopping for a kit. There are a number of build threads out there, but no-one specifies the kit they bought or they pieced together on their own or after review the kits are $400 more than equivalents that can be found on ebay or summit.

I already ordered a Transgo HD2 shift kit and now I'm looking for the rebuild kit itself.

I have a 95 4l80e. I'm good with a build for 700 whp for now. I'm not going to worry about a billet input shaft or billet hub right now. The plan is to install, use stock torque converter and stock driveshaft. I won't be putting more than 500 whp down or be going over 100 mph to the stock driveshaft right now. Point is that I would like to get my truck driving again and I want to get the internal trans stuff out of the way. I'll do a converter and drive shaft later.

I would consider going with a 4l85E input shaft if that is really an upgrade. I read somewhere its a lot stronger than an 80e input shaft and its a drop in.

I was looking at the kit below. What do you guys think? I do not have a lot of experience with automatic trans, but I have bud light and I learn quick. Please keep the "do it right" and build a $5k trans or a $2k billet kit to a minimum. I understand the concept and that sometimes is true. In most cases people overbuild and over pay. If I had the cash to build it right, I would. I am a broke and a cheap *** fo rilz. I am willing to cough up a few extra bucks for things that are an absolute must.

I also want to learn how to do this stuff. Obviously I might seriously screw this up. Its worth more to me to screw up on my own and have to pay again to get it right.

With that said any input is valuable, even if it is all "do it right". You guys have been doing this a lot longer than me and everything provided thus far has be very helpful.

You guys think i need replacement electrical and solenoids? I read that a few times.
