4.8L 80mm Single Dirty Grandpa Truck Build
#132
Does anyone have any suggestions for a cheap wheel/tire combo that doesn't make the truck look weird (small diameter)?
I've been looking around for a decent size tire that is 28" diameter (stock is 30") and options are there, but it seems like its going to be $230ish a tire for a 275~300. I think i can make 15's work, but there is also a slew of 16, 17, 18 and 20's out there. Also seems like drag radials are the only thing I can get in a 28" diameter. I guess i'd prefer to get something that doesn't eat itself in 5000 miles. Basically I want my cake and I want to eat it too.
I'm also a little concerned because most are rated for only 100 mph and I'd like to feel warm and fuzzy running 130ish.
I'd love to see some pics if you have them?

I use BFG Radial T/A's on my RCSB with the same stock 16's that you have. 285/60-16. I just did a quick search on BFG's website though and they didn't come up, but maybe you could still find a set somewhere. I like the looks of them on my pickup with a 2/4 drop, the diameter is close to stock. Sorry no pics. Pretty sure they were only $130/tire too.

Im guessing your worries about turbo lag went away judging by the video you posted of driving it on the street. If that thing spooled any faster than it does now youd really have traction issues, haha. Great build man, Im sure I will still need some more insight and advice from you when the time comes. Ive decided to build my entire fuel system first before ordering any of the parts for my turbo build.

I like to get at least 3000 rpm of boost on any setup i build. This is pretty bad considering its shifting around 5600 with the commanded shift at 5200 leaving me with 1400 rpm of boost. I'll be able to get more out of it when i go to a new cam, intake, 4l80 and raise the limiter to 6500~7000, but its still pretty turdish in my opinion.
I was going to buy another 0.90 a/r housing, which i thought i could use the new housings from airwerks. Turns out they run a different turbine then the one that I have. My turbo is about 6 years old which evidently means it has a different turbine wheel, so bullseye has me by the *****. Airwerks housings are $180ish and the turbine housing from bullesye is $300.
