Thanks guys!

The truck is really fun right now on low boost. Can't imagine double the power. 1st gear is almost worthless at this point. I suppose some better tires will do the trick.

It's nice that my 4l60 hasn't decided to grenade yet. Thinking my crappy tires are whats making it last lol.

Why did you pin the crank? I always thought that was for supercharged applications.

I dig how you did it out of schedule. I'd have a hard time not jerking off everytime I opened the hood. Sorry, lol.

boosted, awesome build! Looks like a ton of fun. How do you plan to run 20psi without meth on a stock compression 4.8? I'm just curious because that sounds AWESOME, and I wanna know how HAHA.

It'll cause problems on anything making power. My buddy had a balancer take a walk on a ls2 single turbo recently. Better safe than sorry.

I came from the import world. That's what I build all that stuff out of.

It's a no-brainer when you're trying to do something like this.

1.5 sch 10 pipe (1.6" ID) is like running 1.75" .065 wall tube for flow with twice the wall thickness for durability. It's a hell of a lot cheaper, easier to weld and easier to get. You also don't need to run any kind of support stuff. The pipe itself will support the turbo.

Each engine/setup is different. I might not be able to run 20 psi on pump without knock. My suspicion is that I can on my setup. There are a bunch of guys running 20psi without meth in the ls forums over the years. It all has to do with timing and fuel. So I might have to run some dumb amount of timing to do it like 12 degrees to make it work. I will have to run really fat on the fuel, but that's ok, i'm currently around 11.5:1 and that should do the trick for high boost too. I lose some power but it keeps those factory slugs cool and wards off knock.

I'm actually pretty interested in running meth, just not right off the bat. There are obvious benefits to meth with the colder aits and effective higher octane, but i think a lot of people have a misconception that it's required.

I built this thing to be reliable and also be easy to drive. I want to run out of gas, pull up anywhere, fill up and not have to worry. Once you start building based on fuel/meth constraints you'll eventually get into a situation where you break something or you can't participate in the fun/burnouts because you're missing something. Nothing like "i can't race... i need to get race fuel" or meth or e85 or whatever.

The other condition that warrants meth is high aits. This can be a result from a number of things like filter placement, lack of piping insulation, too small of a compressor, too small of an intercooler or poor flow through the intercooler.

If you have a condition where you're seeing 20+ ambient iat's and you don't want to re-invent the wheel because you're only seeing them for a smaller period of time where you've you got your foot all the way down, then meth makes sense.

My AIT's aren't that great but I've identified two problems. One I haven't boxed in the filter, so its sucking heat off the manifolds/radiator. Two, my cold pipe is right in front of the radiator fans, so its in direct path of heat.

I'll fix all that crap and see where I'm at before i crank it up. I'm also limited to running that kind of boost with my transmission. Need that 4l80 in there before I get cereal.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a cheap wheel/tire combo that doesn't make the truck look weird (small diameter)?

I've been looking around for a decent size tire that is 28" diameter (stock is 30") and options are there, but it seems like its going to be $230ish a tire for a 275~300. I think i can make 15's work, but there is also a slew of 16, 17, 18 and 20's out there. Also seems like drag radials are the only thing I can get in a 28" diameter. I guess i'd prefer to get something that doesn't eat itself in 5000 miles. Basically I want my cake and I want to eat it too.

I'm also a little concerned because most are rated for only 100 mph and I'd like to feel warm and fuzzy running 130ish.

I'd love to see some pics if you have them?
