Hey my little 4.8l does quite well.. My bolt ons help out the cam and stall... The 48 loves the n2o too!!

I vote turbo. I boosted my 4.8 and i love it. I would say start there, and if you want to upgrade, you can just throw it on the new motor. I recommend Trick also, he helped me out alot. Good luck.
