Is a 4.8 even worth messing with?

I just bought a 07 Silverado 4.8 4x4. I am coming out of a stock CTS-V and let me tell you this thing feels like a dog. I am not a drag racer but I want to have power. I want to be able to roast the tires from a stop with out power breaking and I want fast throttle response and quick acceleration on the highway. Will a 4.8 with a Radix give me that or should I just look at changing the block?
As it sits from a stop in a straight line if I mash the throttle the tires dont even churp. It is sad. This truck does have the stock on/off road tires on it.
I am weighing the costs of 4.8 w/ Radix and all bolt ons vs a 408 block NA. It looks like the 408 will be more cash so I would do the radix if the outcome would not disappoint me.
thanks

A 4.8 with FI will be faster then a NA 408. I only have a small cam in my other wise stock 4.8 and look what its does in a 5500 pickup
The 4.8 is actually a very strong boosted motor. I've seen some crazy boost put though them.

the best bang for the buck is a 6.0L swap, not difficult at all, factory reliability, just throw in a Trailblazer I6 stall converter in there while the motor is out and it'll do everything you are asking for and it can be done for much less than half the cost of a Radix kit.
