Yup everything costs more up here. The cheapest LS I could find was a 250k 6.0 long block for $300. Anything low mile is $1000+

Tore down the top end tonight, this is what I found on the drivers side (the side with 3 holes of no compression). Piston #5 has a crack in it, and pistons 3 5 7 can all rock pretty easy within the bore, so I'm assuming the rings are shot, although the cylinder walls look good. I'm going to pick up an '06 5.3 this weekend.

I just want it up and running so I'm putting the 5.3 in right away. I will likely pick away at the 4.8 in my spare time though, maybe do a stroker?? Are the 4.8 heads any good? I haven't got any numbers off them yet but they were stock on an '01 pickup. If I could stroke it and keep the stock heads with a good cam it would be a nice n/a option in the future.

Take the pistons out and you will see what happen to 3 and 7. Ring gland broken.

I'm going to see if I they can give me references to someone who's had a 60E built by them, see how it's holding up.
I ran 11.1s with a 200 shot making well over 500hp with a built 60E and never had a problem. The 60s will hold alot more than people think. Im also in the process of a boosted 4.8 build and i plan to run a built 60E as well.

That sucks. Yeah, there were a couple guys here who made this exact same error not too long ago, within a week of each other. One with a Colorado I-5 and the other with a 5.3 iirc. Hopefully your setup will be better now than it would have been without this mistake. Failure is merely an alternate pathway to success.
