2001 1500 magna charger question
#1
I am installing a magna charger on my 2001 5.3 and am wondering if anyone has had problems with reinstalling the grill after installing the inter-cooler and installing the external fuel pump around the ABS box. The instructions show nothing at all about installing the fuel pump around the ABS box, for a supercharger that cost me 4800 and is suppose to be 100% bolt on, is starting to **** me off! Also, they could not send me a computer tuner because I have no cats, has anyone else ran into this problem? I am currently using a hp tuner through a friend. Thanks for any help on this

are you saying that you are trying to install the fuel pump itself by the ABS box? The external pump mounts on your frame rail next to the fuel filter. And the grille should snap right back into place. Get some pics and you'l get tons of help. Take a deep breath, it'll all work itself out. Don't rush it.

As for your tuning, we could have provided you with a hand held tuner that would have tuned your PCM to work as if the cats were there. I believe we told you that we could not turn off any codes for the cats being removed due to our kit be 50 state legal.
The kit is 100% bolt on, and I am sure you will find 100% of the people saying the same thing.
Enjoy your new found power.

Well I was able to fabricate the grill to fit around the inter-cooler and as for the fuel pump, I decided to call it a night and start on it in the morning. I understand that the fuel pump bolts to the frame railing, but It would have been nice if the instructions would have had some pictures of installation around the ABS. I have spoke with my buddy who does my tuning and I am going to send him my computer and the hand held that was sent to me by magna-charger and he is going to use his friends silverado and install my computer, flash it with the tuner sent to me and copy and paste files from the copy he has on hand of my tuning (he lives in Texas now). I still wonder if this was the right charger to go with with my set up? Thanks for your replies!

In your first post you stated that you did not recieve a hand held tuner, and now you say you did. I would install the programming the way it comes from magna charger and get your truck running. I am not sure who your buddy is, but putting your engine at risk is not what I call a smart move. I assure you that you have made the right decision in forced induction, there is no other kit that provides you with the support that the Magna Charger does.

Yes it did come with a tuner, but again, I have not cats. no egr system (bought 2002 5.3 engine off ebay/engine came with no egr) and have installed a 2001 ZO6 cam, larger intake/exhaust valves, and had the heads ported/polished. The truck is programmed to shift full throttled at 6500rpms. If I were to use the tuner sent to me, I would be throwing codes left and right and probably not be able to drive the truck. So where does that leave me, having to rely on my friend to re-tune the truck when he can get here, which isn't anytime soon or go the rout and send him the tuner and computer and have him work his magic. I would gladly be interested in any other ideas out there as to how to go about the tuning.

I have no problem with magnuson, they have been helpful with what they can do. I don't see the point in buying a SC for a stock engine and not doing any mods. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of people out there who are happy with just the fact that they have a SC on a stock engine, I am just not one of those people. I want more hp, I am addicted to more power! This is a whole new realm for me and am looking forward to the power the magna charger will add to my truck. I think the closest dyno/tune shop for me would be around the Chicago area.

Thanks for your help, I live around Notre Dame and have found a place in Fort Wayne Indiana, but they don't do dyno tuning anymore, but are willing to rent the dyno to me so I can do my own tuning; which doesn't help as to tuning and programming is beyond my scope of skills as of this time, maybe in the future. I will look for your email tomorrow. Thanks again!
