2 bar vs 3 bar MAP sensor and HPTuners
Right now I have a stock sensor and need to buy a new one for the turbo. My question is, when you upgrade the PCM to a 2 bar or 3 bar OS, what exactly changes on the tables? Does the VE just get re-scaled and it keeps the same number of cells or does it actually extend and add on the addition cells needed?
If it keeps the same number, obviously the 2 bar option is better for now to keep resolution higher, but if it just adds the extra cells, I might as well go straight to 3 bar.
Do you guys do anything special to prevent the sensor from being blown out of the intake?

Im currently wondering what to do with mine. If you use 2 credits for the 3 bar and use a 2 bar sensor will it work right?
I have a 2 bar sensor now, dont really plan on going above 12-14lbs for now, so with 14 ill be right at the max of the sensor, But at same time i dont wanna use 2 credits now on a 2bar os then have to use 2 more later to get 3bar

So the table does not add any extra cells then, just changes the values and makes higher steps in between. I'll just do 2 bar for now and maybe go 3 in the future and buy another sensor.
The way I understand it timmay, the tune has to match the sensor due to the way the voltage corresponds to pressure.
A friend of mine says that you only need to pay to upgrade your OS once. Once you are on the upgraded OS, instead of going from the 2 bar to 3 bar, you just go back to your 1 bar and then go to the 3 bar from there since the original is already upgraded.
Does that sound right to you other guys?

Yes its done in 5 kPa increments with a standard MAP rather than 10 kPa with a 2 bar. More importantly though the sensor still works on the same 0-5v signal they just have different output meaning... so even if HPT was more 'accurate' I don't think the sensor really is.
Its best to run the 2 bar map until you need the 3 bar.

I'm pretty sure you will have to use two more credits to upgrade to the 3 bar OS. And OP, the 3 bar table does extend downward giving more cells in the Y direction. You will get better resolution with the 2 bar but I would go with the 3 bar initially. I've been running my truck on a 3 bar OS since I went turbo and haven't had any resolution issues. You won't notice it at all.
