Do my dyno numbers sound weak?
#11
I was wondering if you checked and changed your pushrods? When I put my ZO6 cam in I didn't. The hp and tq #'s in my sig are with the wrong push rods in (stock push rods 5.3) Opps!.. But after I changed the push rods the motor wants to make more power now, says my tuner. I would have dyno numbers to prove it, but when the truck was on the dyno the methenal would not spray. I have another appointment on the 4TH. I know you said you built a few motors before, But I didn't check mine untill now. I'd thought I would just ask!

Good point indeed, however the '01 Z06 cam uses a large base circle due to it's shorter lift and shorter duration. I checked the rod length after installing and the valvetrain had good geometry. The rocker tip had a nice even sweep across the tip of the valve stem. After starting and running the rockers/springs are quiet as can be. I am happy with how quiet and smooth everything operates. Good idea though on the rods, most guys don't even think to check them when they slap a new cam in a motor.

Yeah I put down 255/260 on my 99 w/'02 Z06 cam, exhaust, and CAI. Those are my only mods, and that was with my mail order Nelson tune
Then again mine is a 5.3 and 4wd, not sure how much of a diff that would be though.

Yeah, I used the 02 zo6 cam as well. The reason I thought about it was the motor was loud. And didn't sound right reving at 6k, on the dyno. Now that the push rods are changed, the motor is quieter.

It feels just like it ran with the stock cam, other than the fact when you rev it up to 4500 or around there it keeps pulling and pulling. Very steady smooth power above 4000 RPMS, perfect for passing. I think any bigger cam would have been a bad choice for my style of driving. My gas mileage didn't go up or down either. Right at 22MPG on the highway at 60MPH. We have poopy gas here in MN as well. Any bigger of a cam and I wouldn't have been happy. I think the key to having a good street motor is to have the broadest, smoothest torque curve possible. Any bigger and it would have developed a lope, then comes a decrease in gas mileage, hotter temps at idle, vibrations, etc etc. If I want to go any faster I'll put in a 408
. Otherwise I'm trying to be practical with this thing and get decent mileage and good driving mannerisms. Just wanted a slight warmover on top of what the factory power was like
If I want to drive a big lopey fast truck I'll drive this:My '70 C10 SWB with a 500 HP 468 big block and 4 spd muncie. Brakes aren't an issue since they're full manual drum

You didn't mention it, but you did change springs when you did the cam? Just trying to rule out the obvious stuff.
Here's my 4.8/A4 dyno. Mods are listed on the sheet. Truck had 3.42 gears at the time, and this was with the 20's on it.

You know...... I didn't want to say it but that thought has crossed my mind more than once..... I never mic'd the cam before installing (which I should have done). I'm wondering if doug rippie sold me a stock LS1 cam vs the '01 Z06 cam he said this was. He sold me the cam and solid blue springs for $50. The more I think about this the more it upsets me....
Look at Scream's Dyno, with 3.42 gears, Auto trans and big heavy 20" wheels, he's putting down a peak of 272 HP and 261 ft lbs of torque compared to my 230 HP and 240 ft lbs of torque. Scream, this is very impressive for that motor. I'm thinking of yanking a valve cover off and putting my dial indicator on a pushrod to see how much lift is in that sucker. If it's not a .525 lift, I'm going to be very very upset!!! If this thing has only a .479 lift on the intake and .472 on the exhaust, Imma take this camshaft and go feed it back to Doug. He screwed me once with the Dynotune, I wouldn't be surprised if he screwed me with this cam as well. Like I said, this cam feels just like my stock one until 4500 RPM's or so then the torque just extends beyond the stock curve. Not really more intense, but just more prolonged........ If I have to yank this cam out again and we'll say I wanted to upgrade to a COMP 212/218 .558/.563, will these "BLUE" LS-6 springs be sufficient? Are these even LS6 springs for cryin' out loud????

These are the valve springs I have installed in my truck right now. Are these comparable to a Comp 918 spring? What's the max lift these are suggested for? Changing springs was a bitch and I don't really feel like doing it again.
