I have never had any big chunks of metal in my eye from grinding but it doesn't stop me from wearing safety glasses. I have seen transmissions come apart at the track and it can cut your leg or foot off in a heartbeat. I hope I never need to use a scatter sheild but they are good insurance.

a scatter shield and a dust shield under the trans are two different things... I dont see shrapnel coming through a thick aluminum bell housing, double wall steel floorpan, carpet (or rubber) and still have enough force behind it to do any real damage to your foot in something thats not making stupid amounts of hp. Our track doesnt require one, unless its a rail, or the trans/drivetrain is completely exposed, I dont see why anyone should in a stock type vehicle. This is my opinion though... I wont be running one in anything I build.

I saw one here under transmission shields: campbellenterprises.com

I am reading conflicting info as to what ET this is required at though. Not sure if it is 10.99 or 9.99
