I'm curious what you guys strip to reduce weight. I know the usual tailgate, hitch, bumper, spare tire and backseat, but what else? Anything up front?

 

I'd really like to know this as well. I was fooling with some numbers the other day and given that my truck roughly has a 70/30 front/rear weight distribution. I would have to shed over 1000lbs off the nose to get a 50/50 weight distribution. That's not gonna happen but I'd like to at least improve on something.

I've looked into making my own composite parts, but there's a huge carbon fiber shortage going on right now.

I want to hear from these 3800lb RCSB guys. What are you doing to get the weight that low?

 

Could always run an aluminum LS1 or LS2 block, glass hood, glass bumper cover and remove some of the supports... I've actually been looking for lighter racing style seats too... those power heated leather seats are heavy SOB'S!!!

 

I've seen guys going as far as also removing the hood, bed, and carpeting but that really looks stupid. I know less weight is free hp, but I'd rather buy or fabricate more hp. It's more fun IMO to have everything including a DVD player and my kid's car seat and still smoke a mustang or a vet. (Stock to lightly modded of course) The look on their face is worth all the money.

they might not be exact but pretty damn close.
i did the lil weigh myself on the scale first.
held the items on the scale and then subtracted my weight.

 

Don't forget the few pounds for the right front headlight too.

 

oh and fold in the mirrors for you aerodynamic suckers out there, lol....

 

Thanks for posting that cajun! I'm really curious now as to how much each individual component weighs on our trucks.
If I were really serious about it I guess I would remove what bluecajun said and then:
Hitch
Rear sway bar
Back seat
Outer bumper brackets
Some of the fender braces
The big *** metal plate where the stock air filter sits
Tow hooks
And any other body bracing.

They might not add up to much individually, but I bet when you add it all up it's significant.

It be ideal though to go through the truck bumper to bumper and replace non-essential components with either Al or CF. I bet that would shave a **** ton off the truck without comprimising too much strength saftey and creature comforts.
