Unhappy Slow 4.3L S-10

I have a 2000 RC, 4x4, S-10, 4.3L the truck is slow as hell. I just got killed bad by my friends 2006 RC, 4x4. I knew he would beat me but I didn't think it would be near that bad by 85MPH you could park at least 5~6 trucks between us, I thought it would be at least close We went by the scales on the way home his truck weighed 5060lbs with him, and my S-10 weighed 3820lbs w/me. So at 3800lbs, 3.73 with 190HP I should have advantage over his 5000+ LBS, 295 HP, 3.42's. What's up here are these 4.3's just or is there something wrong with my truck. I didn't get the truck for power but my buddies allways race our beaters, and I don't like being beat like that

Just put a damn v8 in it and quit bitching...best thing i did to my fullsize. Just think how slow it was! ran 16.8's in phoenix. Which sucks, cuz Now that i think about it, on paper, i only picked up .1 in the quarter mile swapping in a v8 haha, im only running 16.7's here in Hobbs NM.

Thats pretty bad. My ext cab 4.8 went 16.3 pretty much stock and a partially clogged cat converter. A good tune, longtubes, ory pipe, K&N and its running mid 14s with crappy gears. Whats the elevation there? I figured the 4.3 would run pretty strong, what can be done to these things to make them run hard? How well does the 4.3L respond to a tune?

My first run ever with my truck was 10.4 in the 1/8th, that was with intake and hypercrap programmer. My best with that same setup was 10.2. My truck should way about 3300lbs before me.

He would be running mid 15's at sea level, and if your times are at sea level you would be in the mid 17's there. All the tracks I know of are in NM are 3700' ~ 5400' elevation. Im starting to think that might be whats going on here. The NE end of Colorado Springs where I live is 7000' elevation, Im wondering if the little V6 is taking more of a hit than the 5.3L, or the older style computer on the S-10 doesn't compensate for elevation as well as the later modle LS truck. I just ran the S 10 on the G tech and it said 18.21 sec @76MPH, that would be about a 16.7, @83MPH sea level. Truck has newer plugs, wires, and holds ~62+ psi fuel pressure @ WOT.

Thats about a 16.1~16.4 1/4 mile. Did it seem faster with those mods? Looks like your high 13's now are you still running the EX manifolds, and stock cam?

With the mods in my sig I run 9.7 1/8th. I run 8.7 with a 75 shot, which gained 73hp on the dyno and 108ft.lbs. Yes, stock manifolds, stock 1 3/4 inch y pipe that is crushed down less than that from dragging stock cat, through a flowmuster and stock cam.
