Default Perfect Comparrison for those wanting a 80E

So here we go....


last year i had a built 4L65E/Yank TT3000 in my truck... ran 13.3@102 2.0 60' 3 times in a row...

fast foward to this year..
Stock 80E/Stock TC.... 13.2@104 1.95 60' - ran twice

Exact same setup and the weather was better last year. Tune was identical, maybe 2-3* timing different... but same 11.2AFR in boost same 3.42s, same size slick (28")


So there ya go.. Power robbing 80Es!!!! oh and full street trim with spare tire and ball in the reciever hitch







Mods-
Stock LQ4
STS W/A 5# boost
3.42 gears
28" slick
ECSB 2wd Silverado roughly 5000#

the 2-3 degrees of timing will make a difference. I know it doesn't sound alot but it does. From 16 degrees to 18 degrees I picked up 41 rwhp.

dam, thats a gain. I still dont think that an 80e would be that much of a power difference. I understand theres drivetrain loss. Maybe it just doesnt make sense to me, but a trans is a trans as long as it holds up

the 80E has a different 1st and 4th gear

What he said. 60E has a 3.06 vs 2.48 1st for the 80e. Quick takeoff on the 80e. IIRC, the 4th of the 60E is .67. For mileage.
Biggest downsides to a 80e. Weight ( only usu. a concern when R & R'g,but u carry it w/ you every time u drive that truck). HP to turn it & gearing.

Upside: Say it w/ me. BULLETPROOF!
OK, I know some have killed em. But compared to a 60e & those that have, usu. are puttin out alot of power.

Good results. I agree that the timing could be a big difference. That much of a change on a turbo setup could be worth .3-.4 alone. A turbo truck is going to have less of a difference with a 80E over a 60E. The 80E will create more load and sooner as long as you can still get the boost on the launch. The stock 80E converter is actually fairly loose so that shouldn't be a problem. You can also lock the converter in second and third gears where you wouldn't really want to try that in a 60E until late in 3rd gear.

BTW, how with a 60E and a 3000 stall did you only manage a 2.0 60' with a 6.0L and a short tire/slick. Even with a 3.42 gear you should have been in the 1.8's or so???

That i dont know.. im still learing how to drive on slicks..
my best was a 1.88 60' but it broke traction after 60' and i had to peddle it 3 times.. got back on the spray and still ran a 13.2@94 haha

I got alot of learning to do, and its too cold to go to the track cause nobody ever shows up and the track is cold..
So maybe in teh spring we shall see what it does..
Oh and forgot i have hydroboost brakes now with the 80E.. with the 60E/TT3000 i couldnt stall it up cause it would push thru the brakes..

I could manage 2750rpms out of the stock converter brake stalled at 3# boost..


So maybe this isnt a "perfect Comparrison"..

Very unusual as much as I like the 80e Im sure I lost a tenth or 2 at the track but we tend to get tired of swapping 60es in all the time. Is this at the same track?

drop that timing and stop stalling it so high and try again!!!! DOIT!!!

I'd guess the Breeze and zippy are about right, you'd lose about .2 or so in most setups.
