Default NPB 8th, cost me 2 gallons of coolant!

Got the new Walbro 400's in & the Magnum DBB 76/Q/.96 turbo at 18-19psi. First pass I had the safe tune with lower 15.5 timing, 11.3-5 a/f's, and nitrous shutoff at 3100, used for spool only.

Felt like a good run with a ok spinning 60, then right at top of 3rd a HUGE cloud of smoke.. Huge, i'm thinking the S.O.B. is on fire. I pull over and jump out with fire extinguisher in hand! Then I smelled the coolant and figure the 1 degree of timing I pulled from my old tune may have not been enough.

Turns out, damn Heater line rubbed the manifold and burst. Got lucky really, just cut and looped the line and drove her home. Bummed out I drove 1 hour, paid 20 bucks and only got one halfway clean run in, but hell thats racing. Good news is a truck has more fuel and mo'boost!

My best 10.52 1/4 mile pass had a 6.76@104.22 (19psi with .042 pill)

Of all things to go wrong, a heater hose.

Glad to see you carry a extinguisher! A ton of people dont know how useful they can be.

Nice! It's always fun when every time you go to the track you get a new PB. My truck was is usually like that. I figure if I'm going to the track, I might as well have it set up so it runs faster than last time....

Thats a scary feeling rob,

Back in the day when i had my STS turboed 04 ext cab, i was driving to apprenticeship school and had smoke coming out underneath the hood,
I was panic-ing (sp?) and hurried up, pulled over , popped the hood and saw a fire. It was the damn oil return line leaking onto my exhaust manifold, i only had my shirt to put out the fire and did thank god. Damn that sucked.

So im glad it was just a hose in your case!!

Looks like your setup is just gettin better every time! Good luck!

I read the title and thought you had a failure, good to hear it was just a hose!! You are running studs and ls9 gaskets right? I'm afraid I'm going to run into problems if I try to go to 16# with tty

Did the track have any issue that you had coolant and not water? You often hear that at an event, you aren't supposed to run coolant. I have always been curious about test and tune if they ban you for any length of time if you have coolant and blow up.

I had a similiar experience, except it was actually my turbo blanket on fire. I now carry a fire extinguisher on hand at all times.

I wrapped my heater hoses in some heat shielding and put them as far away as possible from the downpipe

I run 19psi all day on stock heads gaskets and stock head bolts w/ a 4.8 you will be fine I wouldn't worry. I do run a dual nozzle meth kit tho (prestone deicer) so I have no detonation on pump gas.

I even sprayed the truck with stock head bolts and gaskets went 11.03/127

Im sure on 16psi you will be fine as long as you don't get any knock

Yeah mines studded with the ls9s. I started to lift the heads at 17-18psi with 17 degrees timing with the stock bolts and gaskets. I say started because I had a little coolant showing up where the heads meet the block, drivers side only. This was with no knock either, running e85.
