Okay, I missed that part.

That vehicle & chassis is going to be very difficult to make hook in 2wd. You'll want the front loose for weight transfer, and the rear tight. You'll need some type of traction bar, very stiff shocks, and slicks. You'll likely still have traction problems. (in 2wd)

It would probably be alot less work to re-build or re-design your front prop shaft setup to handle a 4x4 launch. Then you can put limiter straps on the front end to limit weight transfer off the front tires. That also makes the rear squat harder, so you get more traction on the rear at the same time. Then you can leave the starting line in boost.

I'm aiming for a 7.90 -8.04 1/8 mile et. I'm a bit scared of launching in 4wd and not sure how the truck would handle at over 90mph. It's scary and loose in the mouth as it is in 2wd.

So sounds like caltracs and slicks are the answer?

Is there any particular type of slick to get or watch out for in a heavy car like ours?

I've got 15 inch rims x 8 inches wide but there is room to fit in a 12 inch tyre without hitting the springs.

I suppose I could try the 4x4 out the road and slowly work my way up to see how it feels on the road as speed increases, yes no doubt if i could stay in 4x4 It would launch hard. probly hard enough to reach my et goal.

Hoosiers and heavy cars work

4wd launch would be the way to go, but is this retaining the stock toyota rears? Not sure if they will be able to handle the power as well as the gm stuff.

Yes, I just have bog stock rear axles and the cw and pinion is also stock 8 inch toyota. 4.56 and a lsd.

I am very surprised it hasn't broken already..

I've broken plenty of stuff on this truck, my game plan is "when it brakes make it stronger"

The original 5spd didn't last long before the 3rd gear cogs flew out the side. then the stock rebuild th700 shat itself after 5 runs down the eighth.....

Ah well it's all part of the fun. I like fixing the truck as much as driving it.

Get some (Calvert)caltrac traction bars. They can make probably make them for your truck, you will just have to give them a measurement or two. Thats how mine were made. They work GREAT. My Truck is a Toyota Tundra, With the caltrac bars and 30" M&H cheater slicks I can get high 1.6s 60' times and do the 1/8 in 7.77 @ 87mph. 4.30 Gears, Supercharger +- 480 rwhp.
Cool rig you got. Wish they had the Hilux here.
