98 f-150 with shifter on the floor, do you........

1. keep the pedal on the floor and go to 2WD.

2. back off the gas and then move the lever and get the pedel to the floor.

3. leave the 4WD in all the way down the track.

 

Leave it in 4wd but chances are higher breaking stuff

 

no, chances of braking stuff are more when switching back and forth between the two when racing. I launch out in 4hi and leave it there the whole run. Only on decel do i switch back. Not a single prob yet. Heard to many stories of people braking shift forks by switching back under power. Are the fords the same as the gm trucks? I thought they actually gear down when in 4wd weather hi or low not like a gm truck where 4 hi is just like awd no gear down or anything just power to all 4.

 

i wouldn't recommend switching under full acceleration, that's just asking to break things if you ask me.

 

4hi and 2 hi should be the same geering and only low range does it change.

 

I would say it really depends on what is done to your truck and how much power it is putting to the ground. I would say keep in one or the other to prevent breaking components.

i no the owners book says not to go over like 45 mph in 4x4 that is going to be more than doubled in the 1/4...... well hope it holds up we will see. i talked to a ford dealer (who races some) he said why cant you leave in the deseal guys most have to because they are not getting all that power to the groung on only 2 wheeles.

 

My owner's manual says it's good to any speed that 2hi is good for.
