Default First time ever to the track

Left super easy. Just trying to make it down the track the first time without killing myself. Had et drags at 16psi. Lifted multiple times because I was freaking out.

After this run i realized slicks on a prepped surface were a WHOLE new ball game. I was in the left lane, and kept thinking the truck was spinning. It would pull left and do what I would call, "dog legging." I thought I was going towards the wall. Really, now I think I was just experiencing the natural sway of slicks. Did the same thing this run. Put the slicks at 19psi though.

Told myself I just wanted a clean run in the 1/8th after this. Left easy, stayed in it through all of the 1/8th im pretty sure.

The e.t.'s not that great, but I felt the trap speed in the 1/8th was decent. Something, I may be able to work with. I heard a loud clunk from the rear end, and the track officials said I needed a helmet before I could go any more. So I decided to call it a night.

Overall, I had a hell of a learning experience. Truck was heatsoaked, ghetto tuned, and all my 60's were crap. Maybe the trap speed in the 1/8th shows some hint of potential lol. Just happy I made it there and back. Maybe this ghetto ebay gt45 will be worth running out.

your 60's are pretty slow for having a sticky tire, never seen a track that raced 1000 feet, is it not a full 1/4?

Yea, I've got a 2 step, but didnt use it. Also, I've got weak vacuum assisted brakes. So, I cant really brake boost. Just trying to make it down the track.

Yes the track is only 1000'

There are a lot of smaller tracks that are only 1000 feet.

16 psi is a little low for slicks and the 19 you ran should be the right about the sweet spot.

What engine is the snail helping along? 4.8-5.3? Depending on your converter and engine will determine how low that 60 can become.

Really? I thought 16psi was on the high side and 19 was pretty ridiculious. Maybe ive been doing it wrong the whole time. Running an iron headed lq4 with a custom spec'd ptc single disc. PTC said it should come out to a 3k. My truck is basically some thrown together junk lol

You could get a solid 60 with the 3000 stall and a 6.0 especially you get the 2 step dialed in.

Yes 16 is probably fairly low. 18 psi is a common pressure so your 19 is certainly not crazy high. I would thing 16 you would be walking around a good bit.

WTF are you talking about? He is running slicks, not radials. Those pressure are pretty high for slicks

Thanks bud. Yea the trans issues had me down for a while. Ended up having the converter snout ground down, new flywheel, and the trans rebuilt. She's been great ever since. How's the e85 switch treating you?

What do most people run in slicks? Im sure every setup varies, but was 16 too high to start with?

Don't listen to custm2500... he is the village idiot.

I always ran 15 lbs and would drop as needed for traction, just need to find what your setup likes. Also if you go to low it will get a bit sketchy after the 1/8

If you don't already have them Assassin Bars or Caltracs will help stability going down the track, giving you a much safer feel behind the wheel. Not to mention faster 60's...
