first time drag truck
#1
ok i'm new at this forum stuff so bare with me. i just posted the same thread in the wrong spot. i have a 86 silverado that i want to drag. this will be my first time building anything like this. i think i want to go with a 383, my question is:
with a heavy truck what power band should i try to stay in. i know i can get my bottom end with low gears like 4.10s so i'm thinking 2000 to 3500 with a 2500 stall, but i'm not sure if thats the best way to go. i want to get the most possible hp to the ground out of this small block.
also i might want to blow it, this will oviously change what comp. ratio, heads, pistions...will this effect the power band i'm in? any helpfull tips would be great.

For a all out drag truck bump up that stall to 4000rpm on an NA engine. Welcome to the forum, there is a lot of written info here, your best bet is to look around and find the trucks that are doing well and are somewhat like your goals. Good luck!

I don't think you will want 410 gears if you blow it. I'm no expert on that but I know most of the vette guys go with much less gears when going FI. If you stay NA, the 410 should work well. I am hitting redline right at the traps.

hey but you have a moster under the hood.
bad to the topic you need to make up your mind and figure if you are going n/a are blown that makes a big difference in the set up.really for the money you could put a ls base motor and go faster are just as fast and still keep the everyday use.

ok this is all great info. i'm pretty sure i want to blow it. so once again, when i buy all my components should i try to build for top end, and get my bottom end with my gear ratio?
and if a 383 is a bad choice for my application, please suggest another small block. i have a small block i want to make good use of.
