Default 1st runs after Radix, traction & track issues

I go from 1 project in life to another. Truck gets done, then it's on to a roof, then on to ... u get the idea. That creates a situation where I hadta run this late in the racing season since they close on Halloween. it was Wed. 10-24 or next yr.
So after the Radix install, here's how it shook down.

I got there @ 6 P.M.
My 1st sign it wasn't gonna be smooth. Tech never questioned me this intense, maybe he saw the inrecooler behind the grille, as I left out the blower. He asked if it had stock cooling system, I said yes.
that was true, right? It's just the intercooler reservoir & its' parts that's different. Then, u have long pants? No. We'll let u run this time. I knew I'd forgotten somethin (it was my jeans) as I rushed out the dooor to beat traffic.
Whatdaya runnin? Lo 14's. Well you're right on the edge of needing a helmet. If u crack 13's u can rent 1. How much? $20, make that $10. here I had that at home, just didn't realize. Gotta think safe as I get faster.

So I go in lanes, wait almost an hr. to run. Only 1 lane was open for some issue. I never popped my hood as long as I was there. Anyway, here are the results. Rounded up / down for easier reading. Left off idle, almost 1/2 tank gas, coolant about 200° on runs.

Run 1, 7 PM, 73°
R/T .194
60' 2.46
330' 6.77
1/8 10.077 @ 75.65
1000' 12.847 @ 88.99
1/4 15.174 @ 96.81

Oh great, .8 slower after a blower install!!!

I was excited as this was my 1st run in 2 yrs. & w/. blower on. It showed, I mashed it, & was on / off gas 2-3x. Traction is now an issue w/. more power.

Run 2 After many delays, spills, etc. 9:55 P.M., 67°
R/T .273
60' 2.52
330' 7.16
1/8 10.55 @ 74.51
1000' 88.56
1/4 15.66 @ 97.19

Spin, spin, spin, on & off gas is killin my times. When I wasn't makin too much power, this was never a concern. Crappy 60" all the way to 1/4 time.

Run 3 Said track was closin in 15 min. I hadta hot lap. 10:15 P.M.
R/T .5188
60' 2.1 My best 60' ever!
330' 5.89
1/8 9.037 @ 78.11 Likely a new best
1000' 11.75
1/4 14.048 @ 97.82 Best ever!!

Actual Run 1 weather, temp & D/A: 71°, 63% Humidity, 1670 DA, 95.2% Relative Density
Actual Runs 2 & 3 (close enuff to Run 2) : 65°, 78% Humidity, 1250 DA, 96.39% Rel. Density

If I do correction for Extensively Modified Supercharged & Turbocharged Engines, which this may qualify as, kinda, I finally got a 13! Ha. 13.997 @ 98.182 MPH

Track was horrible in general. Even slick cars were running bad. All the track B.S. (the worst I'd ever seen anywhere) was horrible was gettin into a rhythm.

I've come to realize at this time as others said u start goin faster, traction will quickly will become an issue. I just didn't think it happen so soon. A perk of 2WD I guess.

Ya, I know it's not as fast as it should be. I'm truly disappointed. ya, the 60', 1/8 & 1/4 are all faster, but not good enuff.

Since it was all last minute since it rained earlier that morning, anything that could go wrong, did. I took my GoPro, & opened it while I waited for an hr. in lanes for 1st run.
Dude w/. a 10.8 sec GT-R said I needed the Motorsport attachment which I didn't have nor did I have an SD card & it comes 1/2 charged. Note that future users of a GoPro. Didn't have my HPT nor laptop either.

Next yr., better tires. Likely 18" slicks (M/T's probably in the 9-11" range, so that idea is still open & therefore rims. $$$
Caltracs, I think I'll be gettin these in the next few wks. in prep. for next season.

I had a blast hangin w/. ShredSled. Dave, that's a fine lookin machine there. Thanks for thrashin on your brakes that day to make it out.

Also, while there's more left in it, at this time I wanted to thank a few for gettin me this far. In no order, Jarrod, Roger, Pat, John & any others I left out, I appreciate your help thus far. I so wanted lo, lo 13's. Better luck next time I guess.

I'm even considering a cam in the future. Maybe a Z06 cam, most likely GT2-3, or 1 of the VHP ones like Roger has. Maybe not that exact 1, but along those lines. And ya, traction on this DD street car is gonna be an issue here on out ... but I've even considered 3.73s more now. It might not hook on street unless on a drag radial, but slicks will find their way on at track.

Doh. Atleast you drove it home.

Next time tryin babying it for a second and then roll into to. Spinnin aint winning.

How much boost?

I went from a 14.7 stock to a 14.3 with the sts 60mm at 6psi. Tune was wayyyyyy off. I was learning and finally got it to a 13.2 with just dialing in the AFR and timing.

Slicks and bettet luck next time!!!

Congrats on getting it on and out to the track! Now, a step at a time. You know the potential so don't even worry about it. In due time you'll get there!

You have Comp's 212/218 low lift in there, right?

FYI, I have the same cam with a TVS1900 and was considering replacing it for something else, just because I couldn't find a lot of info about it on FI (blower) set up.

Now take this with a grain of salt, I asked a known cam guru for his advice on a custom cam for my truck a few months back, and he said the 212/218 is an excellent cam for a supercharged DD truck. He refused to accept my money for one of his custom set ups as, according to him, the gains weren't worth the money, time & effort invested.

But he clearly stated, if I wanted a dedicated race truck then he would be more than happy to spec me a cam as the gains could be considerable on the top end side of things.

put a real tire underneath it and go run 12's. can't make much of your time or power level because you were on and off of the gas so much. you're leaving almost a second of time in your 60'.

That comp cam is a good cam for a Radix 5.3 setup, I would not change it. Traction is the issue here, Tom did you ever get it dyno tuned? How much boost are you running?

nonni, Ouch!

I tried to baby it, but was too enthusiastic w/. gas. Only on Run 3, did I more smoothly baby it.

boost, not sure yet. I won't be puttin in my gauges & their mounts for a lil while. Likely early next yr. I'll be makin the mounts when time & conditions allow. It bugs me to no end, but more on that when I do them.

Amazin u picked up 1.1 sec improvement just thru timing & AFR. Not sayin I would, but if I gained that thru tuning, I'd already be @ 13.0 or better.

Byrdman11 & ZO6Ted, thanks. On the, a step at a time, I know the potential, just a little impatient to find it a lil sooner. At least wanted a 13.x this yr. might try again, found there's another TestnTune left.

Ya, I believe that's it. Wanna say it's p/n 41211, But I'll check on it later & edit correct p/n in, when I'm home. It's 114LSA on 112 Intk. Centerline.
His refusal tells me he's an honest person I'd wanna do business w/. & that it's a good cam choice as Pat says below.

No dyno tune yet. I think I'll put that off til I have the $$$ & gauges are mounted & in. Funds very tight this yr. since I missed a month of work or so.
When gauge & mounts are in & done, I plan to get dynotuned while I have some pullies for more boost. Perhaps meth too. I wanna do all my dynotuning at once if I can so it's only hooked up once & I'm not payin time just to put on rollers again. Plus, they're 45 mi away.
Boost, not sure, see my reply to nonni on that above.

If that's all it takes Stew, I'll get em right now.

But a second?!? Cmon, my best was 2.1 60', so I'm sure not running 1.1 60'

Lo 12's are my main goal. Perhaps depending on how close to 12.4 I get, I thought of a small nitrous kit in the 35-75 HP range. I want 13.0 on motor only. Spray isn't a for sure, just a thought.

A neat part on all my runs, I won them all, & usu. by reelin opponents on top end. Best part of my runs, was run 3, I raced a purple Charger R/T. If I not mistaken, I left tree as he looked back at me, maybe ahead perhaps not tho, but lost traction. Laid into it as smooth & linear, yet quickly as I could, he was ahead at the top end. Again I saw in corner of my eye him lookin at me, & then I drove past him to his disbelief.

The look on his face money all the money & time; problems along the way, on blower & other mods, so worth it!
