Default hemi sounds??

My friend has a 04 qc 2wd hemi, i think it has 48k miles on it? or there about.
Some of you guys have had a 5.3 in the past, Yall know the tick that they make?
His truck has something like that sound, but louder.
It almost sounds like the lifter souding off, or piston slap.. i havent opened the hood and tried to figure it out, but its def louder than my 5.3.

Any of you guys had this noise?

It actually happens in most hemi's. It has a loud valvetrain, and there is an EGR valve or something like that on the 04+ that also makes a ticking noise.

Mine's done it from day one, but 55000 miles later and no problems yet, knock on wood. I hear it mostly when I am in a drive through and the noise can echo off the close wall.

If you look around on dtw you'll see posts on it come up from time to time. People have tried various things to get it to stop, with some success, but I've heard nothing that is a 100% positive fix.

Im guessing its not a problem, just a noise..

Very similar to the LSx piston slap although most cases on the Dodge it is the EGR. I have an 03 model and no noise ( 03 did not have an EGR ). The Dodge pistons have the skirt coating and are VERY tight in the bore. I had to be rather forceful when I removed mine for the Ross forged models.
There is a mod out to help stifle the noise but I cannot remember offhand. Check out the forum at www.hemitruckclub.com, I think he/you will find the needed info.

I remember there being some fix for the EGR too, just can't remember what off the top of my head.

My noise just sounds like some healthy valve train clatter at idle, it got louder when I put on my cold air intake, probably some of the sound coming out of that. But when we had the top of the engine apart we checked everything out with valves, springs, lifters... it all looked good, no unusual wear or anything.

So eh, I just drive it like I always have, with a very heavy foot, if it blows up, it will give me a great excuse to replace the crank(and tonar ring), rods, pistons, and get some nice heads from krc.

haha, i hear ya TOE..
we were just wondering, because i havent heard of any LS type noises with the 5.7 hemis.
But we will take a look at the EGR just to see if thats the noise or not..
Thanks guys!
If yall can find the EGR fix, please post up.

I found the link, it is quite long tho. Basically hit page 7-8 for a good explanation of what noise the baffle helps eliminate. The "idle tick" has no immediate solution altho quite a few owners have gone with Royal Purple synthetic and noted a big reduction in the noise.
