I just bought a 93 chevy c1500 with a 350 v8 2wd running at 400 000 km. The km are high but for the price I paid im interested in just swapping the engine out. I have no experience with an engine swap and im looking for information on what options I have in choosing an engine to put in other than buying a brand new 350 crate.

 

You could swap in a mild 454 with up to 400hp with the right supporting mods and a new chip or a chip to flash memory modified pcm from Ledezma Motorsports, a vortec 5.7 longblock with a vortec carb manifold and carb to tbi adapter but will require a new chip too, a tpi 350 from a camaro or corvette with a new chip.

Those are some of your options if you want to keep it obd1 and factory looking.

You could get a custom chip or chip to flash pcm computer with mpfi tune allowing you to rune 8 injectors instead of just 2 with just an extension harness on your tbi harness. Then you get more hp potential above the 400hp limit with tbi injectors.

 

LS swap. Just grab a 4.8, 5.3, or 6.0 from the junk yard dependant on what your budget is. Then go with a 4L60E if you dont plan on beating on it or making a bunch of power. If you are going to try to make a bunch of power then start off with a 4L80E.

You need a set of conversion mounts that you can get from ebay or dirty dingo then a stand alone harness, a walbro 255 pump, a corvette regulator and a set of swap headers unless you want to run stock manifolds.
