Default Out with the old...

Good by 3:08 rear end! and Hello 3:73!

Was at our local pick your part and there sits a 81-82 2wd Suburban, Camper special! Has a 3:73 locking diff in the glove box list, shows to be correct when looking at the diff. ( has huge drums on it, pretty wide )

Going back tomorrow after work to pull the cover, if it is a 3:73 its coming home with me! $125 is just to cheap to pass up!

The 5.3 goes pretty good with the 3:08, so I can't wait to get it out with the 3:73 in it!

Also scored a pair of perfect 2dr GTP charcoal grey buckets for the 79 too. $30 for the pair! I love this junk yard!

Not soon enough! We'll see what I get time for this winter. I really would like to lay some paint down on it this winter/spring.

The plan is to set in the new rear end over Christmas break, and pull out a few springs, do a shackle drop, and put the 2" drop coils up front. Then once it starts to warm up a bit I'll get after the painting.

Im not sure how much cam I want to do, I don't want to sink a lot of money in the tranny. I would love to get the LS6 or Hot Cam in it, just for the idle, but...Time will tell!

Cool deal! I think posi and gears is some of the best money I spent on my truck, it def makes it more fun to drive. I started out with 3:08s also too!

Uh... I'm rockin' 2.73's...

Gears and a posi; since the day I bought my truck that's been one of things that I've wanted to do the most, aside from a new motor and trans.

Congrats on the deals. Keep us posted on the progress. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens over the break. You mentioned throwing some paint on it, what are you looking at doing?

I have a gallon of single stage hawiian blue in the garage, I'll lay that down for now. When I get a garage put up just for working on the truck, I'll do the much needed frame off, but thats gonna be a few more years.

Well it was a 3:73, but not locking diff. Must have been swapped out some time or another. Its an open rear.

I may look into a locker of some sort. Will keep my eyes peeled on ebay for one.
