NEED HELP: LQ9 Swap into a 89 GMC 1500
#1
Hey guys!
My mom has an 89 GMC 1500 and the motor and trans is on it's last mile. I just picked up an LQ9 that I was going to drop into my Trans Am, but the truck really need a overhaul more so.
I'd also like to keep the fuel injection and use the stock ecu & harness, if this is possible. As for the trans, will I need to swap the 700r for a 4l60e?
What about the motor mounts, exhaust manifolds, fuel, T/B, fans, A/C, ect?
I would also like to keep the gauge cluster working, if possible.
Any help would be great!

You will need new motor mounts, something like these or you fabricate them yourself...
Your TH700 will not fit the LS engine, the bolt pattern is different. You either have to use an adapter plate or go with a late model 4L60e. Most likely, you will have to change your drive shaft as well. I would not recommend to use the T/B on the LS, might work though but at least you will need another chip and what about the distributor?

What about getting the gauges, fuel pump, a/c, ect, to work?
Thanks!

To do the swap, you can build a set of motor mounts using a couple pcs of 4"w x 1/4" flatbar like I did, I did the lm7 5.3/4l60e swap on my 93 gmc k1500. you'll need motor mount adapter plates (the 1" offset plates), the 700 will work build you'd have to buy an adapter kit to adapt the lsx motor to bolt to the torque converter, the exhast will bolt right up, I used a custom mount and twin 98 Cadillac Seville 14" fans (runs 185deg in the middle of summer while towing), I used a walbro high pressure fp on the stock pickup just changed to high pressure fuel injection hose from the pump to the pickup tube. Gauges- tap the head hole to 3/8npt and use the oil press sensor and temp gage sender from the original motor in the truck. Stock ac from the LQ9 won't clear the frame, a couple complanies make a conversion setup to bolt the trucks oem comp to the engine.
