Default 14 bolt swap into 89 gmc 1500

So if I go out to the pick and pull and I find a posi, 4.10 , gm corporate 14 bolt in an 88 to 98 chevy or gmc 2500 to 3500 truck is it a direct bolt in for my 1500?

Some stuff I read says yes other stuff I read says the 2500 and 3500 trucks were actually 1 to 2 inches wider so the shock mounts and spring perches won't line up.

Any info greatly appreciated. If it's not a bolt in solution I'm just going to pursue a 9inch axel

It will be an 8 lug but should bolt right in on a GMT 400 truck.

Needs to be from a 4x4

There was a 1500HD / 2500LD 14 bolt 9.5 that had a 6 lug.

doesn't necessarily need to be from a 4x4, just need to be aware that 2wd axles are a bit narrower and compensate for it. A little less backspacing on the rear wheels (the difference is 3" overall, 1.5" per side) will take care of it.

Shock mounts will line right up regardless. 2wd mounts are a bit lower, but a slightly longer shock, and that too becomes a non-issue.
