The only thing really specific you need is a valve spring tool, everything else is pretty universal. I would suggest the dual crane or something similar, if you buy it you can resell it for most of the value after(or just keep it). just my 2cents..

A flywheel jammer will also make your life a lot easier.

I have a cyclinder air hookup so you don't drop valves while changing the springs and a home made spring tool all from a reputable guy on ls1tech. I'll ship them just cover shipping charges both ways but I want it all back haha

 

Is this the one your talking about? I have/used the same one as well in addition to the air hookup that screws into the spark plug hole. That combo worked pretty good IMO. I would also recommend using metal rods of some sort to hold the lifters up when sliding the cam out. Some people have used wooden dowel rods but I don't like the idea of the possibility for wooden shavings getting into my engine. Lowes or Home Depot should have metal dowel rods that would work but you could probably find something in your shop that would work... I found out that aluminum archery arrows will do the trick

 

Yeah that's exactly the same tool ^^ and to hold the lifters up just go get 16 telescopic pen magnets, they're very cheap and work good for holding up the lifters.
