I have a problem I have a clean and well taken care 2002 1500HD crewcab, something got into the oiling system and it lost oil pressure and the engine is spent....1. Would you rebuild
2. Buy a reman
3. find a decent complete engine in salvage yard
Also what other engines are compatible with my truck, ie LQ9 etc.

If you are looking for the most cost effective way, I would buy a used engine. Try to verify the miles first before the motor is pulled and also so you can see what kind of oil pressure it had. You can probably pick up a used 6.0L for $1000 or so with decent miles on it.
Or....I will buy your truck from you
(seriously, PM me if you decide to sell it).

If it were me I would rebuild it. That way you know exactly what you have. To me it seems like less worry then a junkyard engine. But if you are in a hurry to get back on the road them a replacement would be best. It takes a alot of time and patience to rebuild one but it can save alot of money. Just my .02

This is one of the most reliable engine families ever produced. Few fail. Save the money and go used and never look back. The money you save could go twords a nice tune, a cam upgrade and some longtubes
