Default Driveshaft bearing ccsb 2500hd

My muffler heat shield was rattling so I crawled under the truck to shove a rock into it. The last rock had abandoned ship after a trip to the dump. Anyway while I was under it I grabbed the drive shaft to use as a push point in order to slide around under the truck. Imagine my surprise as it moved.
It has not made much noise so I have not been concerned since I found the problem last week. Well tonight I put the gopro on it and drove around. I'm glad I did, that has got to be fixed. The video is kind of long, but you can see it moving forward. The stupid thing has messed up the rear seal on the transfer case.

This will be a fun fix.

Back in late '01, early '02 GM did have bearing issues on ccsb trucks and offered to swap to a one piece driveshaft eliminating that center carrier bearing. I believe that '03 and up all have a one piece in the ccsb trucks.

Interesting. Mine is an 04. I was quoted $250.00 to replace it. I am thinking about doing it myself although I have no press.

250 is high. I was quoted 120 including parts and a balance.

Well I did it myself with the exception of getting it off and putting the new one on the shaft. The one that was on it was made in China. The new one, only one they had, is made in Israel. I tried getting the bearing off with a long 2 jaw puller and it would not budge. The mechanic that got it off for me used an air hammer.

It was not bad at all. The key is not to destroy the shaft as you hammer it. If you have moderate skills you can do it. A cup that the rubber boot goes into has to come off intact. The new bearing had one, but it did not fit at all. Luckily the mechanic got it off in one piece.
