Default 8.1 hauler TQ converter?

Hi, another new guy here. I have an 01 2500hd that I use to tow a gooseneck that can be up to 15k. Anybody have luck with aftermarket converers? What stall speed is good for a stock motor?

towing that much i would think a stall converter will be a good idea... you need all the low end you can get your hands on

I would say 2500-3000 rpm stall. You will want to make sure you install a temp gage(not sure I would trust the stock for an actual temp) or use an infered thermomater to confirm the stock cooling system is enough. A stall will generate a bit more heat but the alison has some crazy factory cooling.

It should really help your towing and it will help come play time too.

15,000 lbs, I would be staying with a stock stall speed. Towing is the one application that really heats up a trans.
If you have to climb some grades using WOT, or TPS % over 87% I might even look into a multidisk TC as the TC will be locked, assuming you have the 4l80e or 4l85e.

With a stock 8.1, you dont need any extra stall speed because the torque comes on at a low rpm.

What did that cost you and how long did it take, I'm going to be down in that area for fire school in a couple weeks.

They cut me a deal cuz it was there first 8.1l converter. They rework my stock converter and wanted 1k but that was 6 or more years ago. Been too long to remember how long it took.
