Worth it to swap old volant for new style?
#1
I have the old style volant on my HD 6.0L, after reading all the posts about it loosing power and volant redesigning it, im not sure if it would be worthwhile to get a new one. I know it doesnt have the tumor thing on it, does it really make a difference? Thanks.

It works good, just getting a Radix kit, and cannot use it.

When I first bought the Volant kit, it was the just the box, filter, and intake tube. I didnt notice any differences down low, I felt a bit more power in the higher mid and upper rpms. Though not much of a difference.
I then added the ram air tube a month later. At speeds around 65mph and up is were it shines. Thats when it actually begins to force a little bit of air. The top of second gear and the start of third gear pulled a lot better.
Another way to increase the ram air effect is to tape off the large square hole in the side of the air box. The ram air system works really well that way.
A down side to it is, a really dirty air filter, a lot of road debris in the box, and of course driving in the rain or hitting large puddles of water next to curbs.
The reason they leave the hole in the side of the box is to eliminate creating positive pressure in the air box. That will definately let water and dirt into the box with no escape.
I only recommend taping or blocking off the hole for track or racing purposes only.
I let you know when I will sell it. It may go up for sale pretty soon. I may be doing my mods sooner than I thought. The boss may loan me out one of his vehicles for a month while my truck is under the knife!

I swapped mine out when the new ones came out. They have a larger filter now and a better designed box. They were selling them at cost to anyone who had purchased the original one and was looking to upgrade after reading about the loss of power from a dyno test in a magazine article. Call the factory and tell them you have an old/original CAI and ask if they will sell you the new improved one at cost to replace your existing one with. If customer service is important to them, they will be willing to work with you to make sure your happy with their product.
