Expensive resistor that you can buy at radio shack for probably 10 cents

 

My friend who is an S-10 guy said something about this awhile ago. I guess some guru on s10forum.com experimented with this and it works.

All the resistor does is change the current that goes to the IAT sensor. I'm sure the PCM gets a different reading, and imagine the pcm thinks the air coming is colder so it dumps more fuel in and adds more timing. I dunno though?

 

Don't do that. It's a $0.03 resistor. I think vanillagorilla is correct, it just tricks the computer. I wouldn't do that mod, but that's just me.

 

I did that in my old S10, and all I got was a motor that bogged when I got on it.

Yeah, it replaces the IAT sensor. The IAT sensor is just a resistor that changes it's resistance with temperature.

You can trick your motor into thinking it's 50*F, when it's really 90*F, by taking the IAT sensor, putting it in a 50*F environment, and then reading the resistance. Take that resistance, and buy a resistor at radio shack.

If anyone wants to try it out on their own, I think I still have a IAT sensor/resistor around here - I can measure a few different temps and give some specific resistance values to go and duplicate.

 

Junk! If your that hard up for power do the free mods. It tricks the IAT sensor into thinking its 32F out side so it dumps more fuel and bumps the spark. But it is a VERY small change, and you will not notice it!

i thought i plugs into the ect sensor. the picture shows iat but wouldnt the ect sensor be more valuable, more timing more fuel. thats what i always read anyway,
