are the ls1 in the 98 trans-am are they good engines ? or was there any problems with this year ? i was looking at maybe getting one for a daily driver . thanks

 

No problems the only downfall to the early ls1 fbodys to the latter ones is that the 98 heads don't flow as good and the 98-00 have the EGR system still

The worst thing about the fbodys it the 4l60e is week and the 10 bolt rear ends are week

Just an FYI, some of the '98 had piston slap issues also.

 

Almost every ls1, lm7, lq9, Exc that I ever had as some piston slap when you first start them cold. Just the nature of the motor

 

98-99 also had weaker rod bolts and the 98's have parameter valve cover bolts

You really want the 01-02 ls1

 

98's had the less desirable PCM, 99+ PCM's are better. Don't ask me why, but I remember reading a lot about it back in the day on Tech. Like said above, 01-02 are the ones to get; LS6 manifold, better PCM, bigger injectors (iirc), and some other stuff.

 

try n keep it 00-02...these are the best ls1 in fox bodys
