I know it isn't a LaRue/Harris like so many people recommend, but I just don't want to spend that much right now.

I like cheaper bipods. Iv used Harris and they are nothing special imo. In the end there all just fold out sticks that support the gun in some situations. Why get fancy with it ha ha. I would not get that light and laser combo. It's too cheap to be any good imo. I have a foregrip like that. Not bad for price. I imagine that mount will be fine also. What scope is going in it?

 

I have that mount and like it. It does whats intended and is a good looking piece. I cant say I have removed it to see how close it tightens back down or anything like that.

As well as Im buying myself a bipod for x mas, and plan on buying a cheaper one than the harris. i just dont see the price justifying any differences in them

 

I am getting that mount, I am sure it will do fine, and I believe I am getting that bipod too. Only being used for hunting and occasional plinking, but 6.8 isn't cheap, so very few plinking trips.

 

imo trash. larue mounts are expensive for a reason.

 

I use the cheap bipods on all my rifles. I mod them a lil to make them more sturdy.
That crappy utg light laser thing sucks. Might work awesome if you used it on a airsoft M4 but real world use, it sucks. Know a couple guys that have one and garbage. Even on a 22 rifle.

Burris XTR rings are where its at if your gonna abuse the rifle. They are tough. But no dealings with burris scopes.

I get funny looks at matchs with my rigged bipods but they work great.

 

and yet the reviews are great...?

What I have come to realize, is there are a lot of elitist in the world of firearms accessories. The reviews on the Burris mount are great too. But some swear by LaRue and etc. And I don't mind spending the money, but if there is an alternative much cheaper, and the reviews are good, why not? I think some forget that as a civilian, not banging **** around the sandbox 24/7, that most things will work fine. This even coming from a few guys I know who spent 6+ years with rifles, and now use UTG and etc for their builds in the civilian world.

Not to take anything away from LaRue, and if I turn out to be wrong, I only lost $25. If I went the other route, and someone else cheaped out and it turned out to be just fine, then I would be out $125 more than them.

 

I will only be hunting, you saw that pretty thing I built, **** banging it around, that's why I have the mini 14.

 

Haha. All my rifles get banged around. I sure dont build them to just look pretty or something to look at. I get every cents worth out of them metal parts.
There are a few corners in the gun world where you can go the low budget route and be just fine. But then there are several things your not gonna wanna go cheap on and end up costing you a shot on taking the game animal of your life.

I spent a few extra and went with things like good bases and scope rings, barrels and brass/ bullets. But something simple like a bipod, replace the pivot bolts with good bolts and poly lock nuts, and use paracord to make the feet not flex by limiting the outward travel. Makes a big difference.
Ill have to snap a pic tom and explain so dont ask.

Basically i wanna know if my rifle falls off the 4wheeler or off the seat of the truck or riding it around in the tool box for a week, its still gonna hold zero. Have yet to have a problem except when i had a blown primer lock up one of my ARs. I couldnt take the upper/lower apart cause the BCG was locked up halfway in the buffer tube. After several minutes of beating the forward assist against the rack of my 4wheeler and then getting a hammer and screwdriver out to beat the bolt forward, finally getting the primer out. The zero was about 12" high and 8" right at 100yds. Not bad for gettin beat on and thrown down several times.



I use a mueller sport dot 3-10x40 on my 6.8 and couldnt ask for more.
