Default Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag problems

Well I've been trying to shoot some skeet in prep for duck season and my trusty old 'berg has started to malfunction. Started out just once in a while, then got worse and worse until now it won't pull another round out of the tube to load after a shot (pump 12ga) unless you rack the crap out of it and I don't like being that hard on it or beating on it in general... Yes, it's been used as a boat paddle, yes it's been a push-pole, yes it's been a tent stake but any good duck gun should be able to double as any of these without an issue.

I've heard the extractors are an issue with these so I'll start there.... Anybody else have any issues with this?

can't help ya, I hate bergs. But a Navy story, we treated our 870's like the worst porno you've see. We stuck those things in everything. Dropped, filled with mud, literally beat the F out of them, I've never treated a shotgun so bad in my life. I use my SP10 for a boat paddle as well. Ofcourse we did clean those 870's once a week, but I was so amazed with them. I have seen small pieces of gravel get ejected with each shell. OKay back to your how to fix my berg thread.

nope, but im 100% sure its your extractors. whenever you push the pin out from the reciever, pull the trigger assembly out, then you will be able to pull the bolt and carrier out. then you can inspect the extractors or extractor more closely. it will probably be a little worn down. unless you are competant with working on guns, i would either take it to a qualified smith or just order a new complete bolt from online.

Thanks Jared, Im plenty comfortable working on all my firearms. Aside from owning, shooting, maintining, and living with firearms my whole life... being in the Marine Corps for 6 yrs probably helped a little

I've heard of this Issue before and like you, I'm sure its the extractors. I know some people hate Mossbergs for various reasons, just like my Sigma SW40VE I like so much... yeah its a $300 beater and not a $1000+ Kimber, Sig etc.... but its never failed to accurately put rounds downrange for me

I wouldnt mind picking up a nice 870 or Benelli Nova if i can find one for the right dollar... and so far, the gun shows around here have dissapointed me all year. Went to the one at Reliant this weekend in Houston and it was terrible IMO.

I need several nik-nak parts for a couple of my guns...

excellent! and there is nothing wrong with a mossy. i own 3 and a few remingtons. look at it this way:

mossys are the kalashnikovs of shotguns. cheap, toughest thing ever, can take a stupid amount of abuse and built with loose tolerances
remingtons are like ARs: built with tighter tolerances, a little more high dollar, and a little more prone to malfactions if abused or not kept clean. btw, read my sig then send me a pm ill get you what you need.

btw send me your sigma and ill do a trigger job on it you are absolutely right, the sigmas are a great pistol after the first gen issues were solved! they are a clone of a glock! the trigger, which everyone condemns it by that, is tough, but it was designed that way. it is a really good bang for your buck pistol.

My 590 started to do the same issue, after about 6,000 shells, First gun I bought with my money on my birthday when I turned 18, back in the day.

New extractor fixed it and has been running smooth for the past 3000ish rounds.
