As far as where 154CM is in the spectrum, it is comparable to S30V and VG10 I'd imagine. Probably a tad easier to sharpen, and might not hold an edge as long as S30V, but still a great steel. Benchmade makes use of 154CM as well.

I'm horrible at sharpening, so I might pick up a spyderco sharpmaker at some point to try.
you might remember ethan buckles from tts. if you want to learn about sharpening, hit him up, he is a god with sharpening anything metal. he turned my $20 gerber into something i can shave with comfortably with. i picked up a kershaw, i forget what model, but the steel is soft, and doesnt sharpen that great, i dont like it.

I'd rather have any model Kershaw than a modern gerber. They've been utter **** since Fiskars bought them out and shipped all their manufacturing to China. And their designs are for mall ninjas.

yea no doubt. its my tank throw away knife, one that i wouldnt be upset if i lost it or broke it. it holds one hell of edge and has held it for a really long time though, so i cant complain.

Is it a Gerber Gator? That's about the only decent model they have left out of their older knives.
