I could be talking about really big coyotes

The shot between the eyes is crazy it ran that far. What ammo were you shooting? The 17gr vmax seems to just explode causing a ton of soft tissue damage in my experience.

My gun likes the Federal 17 g. Vmax load the best out of all the ones I've tried. The one right between the eyes broke the skull and some of the bullet made it inside the skull but I have to wonder it a good part of the retained bullet mass didn't glance off. I have retired it on coyote use. But it is my go too rifle on Prairie dogs! I really don't even like shooting coyotes with my 22 mag. At this point if I go calling I'm usually either carrying my AR in 6x45, .223 (AR or bolt) or my Savage 12 in .204 (which is mainly used for crow sniping). I've seen youtube video's of the HMR being used with good success on Feral Hogs so I know it can kill bigger game. Coyotes are TOUGH SOB's I've seen them run away three legs like they were a greyhound...

Dad shot a sow at ~125 yards with the marlin 17hmr I bought him for Christmas. Put it behind the left sholder, she ran about 50 yards and dropped. Pretty damn impressive!! I happen to love flipping turtles!!

I picked up a Savage 93 not too long ago with a Sweet 17 BSA scope on it. I like it except for the lack of ammo that isnt through the roof around here.

I picked up some Remington at a local store for $21.50 a box, that hurt... Lucked up and got a few more boxes at Walmart for $12.99 a box. Then had a friend give me a heads up and got a 1000 round case off of SGammo. 16 cases when I ordered that morning and only 3 left that night. Payed less than $11 a box for those Winchester's. Im good for a while now. I did find out that a .17 will tear up a metal flip .22 target at 50 yards lol.
