What is torque Management?
#1
I was looking at getting a custom tune with my setup right now and I always read about removing TM. Is it some sort of governor? How much would I stand to gain if I got rid of TM? The vehicle in question is a 2001 Silverado SCSB with 4.8/4L60E and 3.73's including the mods listed below. Someone help me out here.

I have no idea what you will gain by removing tm, but I know its your computer taking the throtle away so you dont kill the tranny. Its pretty common for guys to have 40 to 60% removed and some go all the way.

I have 98,000 miles on it now with about 90,000 being highway miles. The engine is strong right now and the tranny shifts great. Think id have any problems with removing it? Can I get a tune with different levels of TM?

You might get some tranny issues, but if you put in a shift kit I dont think youll have much to worry about, as long as your not too hard on it. I know wait 4 me performance can tune out say 40% for normal driving and have a tow/haul *** mode with 100% removed, for the occasional romp.

What I know about Torque Management (and it aint much) is that the PCM will "manage" the torque output at takeoff and between shifts by retarding the engine timing.
I wish I knew why GM is doing this. Is it because the trans/rear end are not strong enough? If that is the case, then removing much of it might hurt those parts.
If I knew what GM was thinking when they put TM in there, it would help me decide how much (if any) I want to remove.
Maybe it is there to make your tires last longer

I got good gains from removing the limiting TM form my 1997 truck.
