I like Tunercats OBD2, pretty much because its the only software for the OBS 96-99 Vortec 305, 350, and 454.

I like the way you pay $79 for a definition file and you can tune as many trucks as ou can get your hands on. None of this $99 per vehicle licensing.

here are the definition files available:

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXX
OBD2_07 1996 - 1997 Vortec Trucks (4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L, 7.4L)
OBD2_06 1998 - 2000 Vortec Trucks (4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L, 7.4L)
OBD2_02 1999 - 2000 LS1 Trucks (4.3L, 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L)
OBD2_03 2001 - 2002 LS1 Trucks (4.3L, 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L)
OBD2_04 2003 - 2005 LS1 Trucks (4.3L, 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L)
OBD2_08 1996 - 1997 Camaro/Firebird/Corvette/Impala LT1
OBD2_09 1997 - 1998 Camaro/Firebird/Corvette LS1
OBD2_01 1999 - 2001 Camaro/Firebird/Corvette LS1
OBD2_05 2002 - 2003 Camaro/Firebird/Corvette LS1
OBD2_10 2004 Corvette
OBD2_12 2004 GTO
OBD2_13 2004 - 2005 Cadillac CTS-V
OBD2_14 2006 LS1 Trucks (4.3L, 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L)

The OBDII Tuner package sells for $379.95 and includes the following:

OBDII Tuner Program on CD
OBDII/RS232 Interface
OBDII Cable
RS232 Cable
Your choice of one Vehicle Definition File

Additional Vehicle Definition Files can be purchased for $79.95 each.

As with all our software, the OBDII Tuner program is not VIN locked to a single vehicle and as a registered user you are always eligible for free updates to the software and Vehicle Definition Files.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXX

No scanning logging yet, but its comming.

I own it & am selling it be honestly theres no comparison...the scanner has been "coming" for ~ a year now from a third party but the editor itself looks like its in beta really...not nearly as user friendly as hptuners or efilive. The price is great but if it takes me 3x as long to tune the same car its costing me more money then its saving.

I was just curious as to everyones take on the different software. Seems to be some emotions involved in this discussion. I was looking at HPT first and my tuner used it as well. However, when he moved to another shop and grew his business he switched to EFI Live for many reasons. Cost, ease of use, etc...I've played around with the demo version on EFI's website and it seemed tailored toward new people learning and was powerful enough for a professional tuner. That's why I chose it. I get two licenses with my package and I doubt I will use the second one anytime soon. So for me EFI was a perfect fit. I can't wait to get it and learn how to tweak my truck just the way I want it.

Yes it was him. I met him a while back at a car show. Nice guy, just don't know him well enough to get any more info out of him.

I started with LS1Edit...sold it and went to hpt. I am pretty happy with hpt. The only thing I hate to hear is when one software company can edit something that the other can't. I get jealous. LOL I gotta screw with everything.

My costs to date considering tuning...
$300 Laptop
$499 HPT Standard
$150 EIO Interface
$495 Dynojet Wideband (if ya gonna tune might as well plan on getting one IMO)
$625 Stoli Vodka
$218 Guiness
$300 Therapy Sessions (175 each hour...2 sessions)
$forgot 1Bar SD Enhancement...I think it was 60 some bucks. Maybe 120. Before the credit stuff.
WOW...never sat back and looked at the costs of me tuning before. YIKES. I better go ahead and put myself on needing a liver donor list.

Seems there is more support (from other members) with HPT, but again I don't search out efi people either. Seems EFI appears to be more user friendly because of the way it is marketed and screens are setup as defaults. I do believe, HPT will do all the same, just they don't market the same.

You cant tune the 96-2000 Vortec 350, 305 or 454 with EFI Live or PTuners, so you can understand why I am partial to Tunercat.
If was tuning for profit like it seemsyou are, then my opinion might be different. The whole reason the scanner.logger is taking so long is that it had to be reworked for us EARLY GEN 1E Vortec guys, if MXScan was directly aimed for the GEN 3 crowd it would have been out long agao.

yeah i understand where your coming from...thats actually why I bought it(LT1 tuning) but using tunercat to edit/flash, hptuners to scan/log a/f & another scanner to log KR at this point its just retarded. I will say tunercat has just about as many editable parameters as hpt but at this point its still very difficult to navigate through in comparison meaning I'd rather pay a little extra for the hptuners licenses to be honest just for ease of use.
