Default Trans tuning

I have HPTuners and I've been tuning my trans; shift times, shift speeds, TM.
I have a few questions.
I've read some people leave their TC unlocked in 3rd and only lock in 4th, is that only for racing, or is it also for daily driving?
Will that heat up the trans too much and or cause harm to the TC?
What is the purpose or gain to leave the TC unlocked in 3rd?
Thanks!

mine is unlocked in third, but i'm locking it in a tune tonight to try tomorrow. I don't like the feel with my stall for slow stop light driving.

Locking up in 4th only @ 45 here. All depends on other vehicle mods, cam, gears etc. Every setup is different. With the converter only locking up in 4th it just feels like another gear. If converter slip around town is an issue you can try locking up in 3rd and see if that helps.

Thanks everyone.
I think i have it dialed in how i like it now.
I have it lock in 3rd at light to no throttle for cruising, and
lock in 4th.
