After a quick search, JET is the only company I have found that offers a chip or programmer option for that truck. The main issue is the vehicle computer is a ODBI which had limited options for tuning compared with the newer style ODBII computers. Maybe someone else will chime in that has more experience with the older style computer.

Yup, 96+ was OBDII.

Looks like Hypertech would have the max energy programmer. Didn't see a Superchips or Diablosport option. As mentioned above, Jet may have something also.

The only good way to get a custom tune on a 97 is to do a 0411 PCM swap and use hptuners or efilive. The 96-97 years use a bonkers PCM worth no ones time. That is why it's so limited for tuners.

Not so. I've tuned over a hundred of 96-97 Chevy and GMC trucks with Tunercat OBD2. They are no more difficult or bonkers as you put it than tuning a 98-99.

Wheatley tuned my 1997 Tahoe and it worked out awesome. He used to own a 1997 himself, so he knows his way around them pretty well.

1995 was the last year for TBI and the OBDI.
