Default Timing light trigger

I was trying to use a timing light with a clip on inductive pickup on my 2016 Silverado 5.3 to see if it was getting spark and it wouldn't trigger on any of the cylinders. Thought that was weird. Anybody know why that would be? I tried to different timing lights.

I just saw my timing light in my garage recently and was trying to think of something to use it for. I like your idea! Any other ideas out there, people?
