Default Speedometer Went Crazy! WTF!!!!!

So I got up for work this morning and started my tahoe like normal and in park with the vehicle idling the speedometer reads 68-70 mph! When you put it in drive and start driving its as if 70 mph has replaced 0 mph. It drops down to around 68-70 mph at a stop sign and rises past 120 mph once on the highway. All other gauges are working fine. Anyone have a clue as to whats going on? Did my cluster take crap or a speed sensor type of issue?

Usually in the cluster. I have seen this quite a few times.

You have an 04, its pretty typical. If you have under 77k i believe its covered by the dealer

Yeah, stepper motor iirc. Though I believe it's 75k. I had 90k on mine and was really nice to the service manager, so he replaced mine under the GM voluntary replacement. Give it a shot regardless of mileage and you might catch one of them on a good day.

I'm at 120k on my 03. Mine has been messing up for the past 25k. I have a GPS app on my phone so if it goes out i can check my speed. I don't feel like spending a few hundred getting it fixed. I may try a dealer though and see if they are in a good mood

Well everyone, here is the latest news. I took my hoe to the local dealer hear in OK and informed them about the GM special policy bulletin on these gauge clusters. They looked it up online and ordered me a free replacement cluster and scheduled me a free install appointment! Was pretty surprised they went for it, but I am pumped!

if they wont fix it you can get the stepper motors on the internet, you can get 6 for like 30-35 bucks and they're easy to install!
