Default smell fuel under hood?

I smell fuel under the hood on the passenger side and in the air filter and air filter housing. It is throttle body and I have idle and driveablity issues. Is this normal? The truck tries to ping now and then too. I am fixing to look for vacuum leaks, have the exhaust system checked (strong odor coming out-not rotten egg smell), and figure out how to check the torque converter and tcc solenoid but I was wanting to know if the fuel smell was normal.

Check the fuel pressure regulator, that has a vacuum like run to it and if it goes it could cause those issues. It's on the drivers side fuel rail. Just pull off the vacuum line and see if fuel comes out, if it does, then you know thats your problem.

Mine is a throttle body 91 Chevy truck. I should have mentioned that in the post. Anyone know if the fuel smell is normal. I don't remember smelling it before all these problems.
