Very intersting. I seem to have flat spot just before my 2-3 shifts. I think mine shifts around 5800-6000. Could be something in what your saying......?

on the 5.3 i commonly set the shift points for 6000-6200 for the 1-2 shift, 5800-6000 for the 2-3, and 5500-5700 for the 3-4 shift with the stock cam.
