Default Shift Firmness By Tune Or In the Tranny

I just had a 4L60e built up to 4l65e specs with the 5 gear planetary sets and all the other goodies, a trans-go kit, 2-4 performer band, better sun shell, better servos and a few other mods.

He told me to run it a while and if I wanted it firmer to bring it back.

Well I do want it a tad firmer, and I have a Radix on the superchips tune and plan to replace that with a dyno tune in Ls1 edit or HPtuners. I'll be dropping a pulley size and hoping to close in on 400 RWHP.

Should I bother with taking it back to the shop and let the tuner firm it up?

And with the better tranny how much TM would you leave in?

Thanks

Thats all up to you man.. if its a built transmission id take all the TM out.
If it shifts too harsh you can put a small percentage back in to soften the shifts.

How many # boost your running now?

6 PSI on a 3.5" pulley and conservative Magnuson Superchips hand held tuner.
I'm going to a 3.4" and a Dyno tune. What do you think? Will a bit smaller pulley and a superior tune get me from 366 into the 390 RWHP numbers?

im sure a tune alone would get you 24 more HP.. The hand helss have got to be pretty conservative.
Take all the TM out and see how you like it.

Thanks,

I still wonder which way is best to stiffen the shifts? In tranny or in Tune?

the "best" way is in the transmission.. but taking out all the TM will make it feel alot nicer and is recommend with the shift kit.

with the shift kit all your line pressure in the tune must be stock. I've been told that the firmness in the shifts comes from how fast or slow the shift is commanded.

I'm really turned around now. I have a shift kit and a Superchips tune that had me firmed up a tad on the stocker tranny. Now I am no firmer than the stocker with the Superchips tune.

So what do I need to do to straighten this out correctly? I want the current tranny firmer.

Any one who can tune your truck should be able to do it.

Assuming the "better servos" are Corvette 1/2 and Billet 3/4. you should remove the Tq Management and see how you like it. Once it's all gone if you still want it firmer you can have it firmed up in the tune or the shift kit. Shift kit being preferred.
You don't want to be barking the tires while driving around cruising. That's bad for it.
