If the engine is running lean in closed loop then you will see positive fuel trims ie the pcm is adjusting fueling and is correcting back to Lambda 1 (stoich) and if you see negative fuel trims then the engine is running rich in closed loop thus pulling whatever fueling error percentage to correct back to Lambda 1 (stoich).

Umm sorry their bud fueling errors are figured as % which does not mean adding or subtracting. Which is why for example if you have a point in your ve or maf table that is say positive 4% lean you would multiply that cell by 1.04 or a -3% then you would multiply that cell by .97.

...and by adding I mean the computer is having to supply additional fuel, and its not straight adding the amount of error
