I hooked up my predator programmer to my '05 silverado and when I tried to tune it, I got an error message reading "no tunes available for you vehicle". I called the tech support line and they asked me if the 8th digit in my vin was a "B". It is so they said I have to send my programmer back for revisions. Does anyone know what the "B" means in the vin number?

 

The 8th digit in the vin is the VIN Code for the engine that is in your truck. Having said that I am sorry but I can't tell you which engine it refers to but you probably know that already. If not you should be able to find a reference to it in your Owner's Manual under Capacities and Specifications. My guess is B refers to the HO 5.3L or maybe a Flex Fuel version.

 

Exactly. You have the L33 5.3 liter high output aluminum block engine. There are a few differences mechanically from the iron block such as heads, cam and pistons.

Somebody told me I had the HO aluminum before but I could never find hard evidence to prove that. Sweet. That may be my first post, but I've lurked here for quite a while. I do most of my posting on gmfullsize but this question seemed better suited for this board. Thanks for the help guys.
