PCM cores?
#1
Hey ya'll. I will soon be in the market for a mail order tune. I don’t really know what my future plans will be for my truck. But I know almost everything I'll want to do will be hard to have pass smog in California. If worst comes to worse I'll have to swap stock parts back onto my truck to get it smogged. I would like to have my stock computer around for that reason. I don't want to give up my stock computer and I don't want to pay a high core charge fee. I have the possibility of getting my hands on a PCM from a 2002 chevy 2500 with the 6.0 for really cheap, at least cheaper than a core charge. I know PCMs are the same from '99-'02, well except for the tune inside it and the latter years haveing a differnt OS. I want to double check whether a ‘02 2500 PCM is basically the same as the PCM in the truck in my sig. My second question is would a turner care what PCM core they got as long as it's from those same years of truck? Regardless of what OS or tune it’s got on it?
Thanks guys!
Thanks guys!

As long as the PCM you get is from a 99-02, it will work in your truck no problem. The tuner won't care what the core PCM is out of, as he will flash the appropriate OS and tune for your application. In 03+, they went to a 1 meg flash chip and they are not interchangeable with the older PCM's.
