If it made a hiss like your tank was under heavy vacum, your vent solinod must not be opening and closing properly. Your fuel pump also has a pressure sensor on it and it may not be reading the proper value...

If there is to much vacum in the tank it will cause performance issues. Believe me, I have done this on my own truck. I comanded the evap system to pull excessive vacum in the tank while on a test drive. It started to sputer and nearly died before the test shut down.

As far as the 02 sensor they either work properly or they don't. With out seeing what the rest of the system is doing and knowing some other variables its hard to say for sure. could be as simple as a loose wire at the conector or it could be more complectied such as a fuel delivery issues on that side of the motor.

I would say it is more of a coinsadence that this happened since they only did the transmission.

If you still have a factory warranty on the vehical it should be covered. if its a warranty on the trans then no.
